This is a transcription of the sermon. People speak differently than they write, and there are common colloquialisms in this transcript that sound good when spoken, and look like bad grammar when written.

James Greer (00:00):
Amen. What a great testimony. Amen? Amen and what a great praise team we had, Dustin. And we could just go into praise with you. Man, these are definitely different times. It was strange coming on the campus this morning and man, it's just empty and, felt so funny, so strange. But you know, God's here. And really the church never was intended to be in a bill. And it was the people. And you know, we've been teaching and preaching for the last months and years. Hey, don't come to church to learn to be the church and you're having that opportunity to be the church. And, you know, but I get up this morning and I was studying to studying and I just couldn't get the peace that I wanted. It was about 5:45 and I'd been up for an hour. And I said, God, I just need the peace and the power and I actually just laid down on the floor in my office.

James Greer (00:48):
And I said, God, you know, I want to, I want to offer boldness to the people and confidence and assurance. And the truth is, you know, I struggle with that and, uh, I know God's got this in control. I know that our people are struggling. I know some of our people are sick and I'm praying for that. And God so good. You know. Uh, he said, you know, your people need, you need the confidence and boldness in you. They needed in me. And I said, I love that he gave me the verse, that faith should not stand in the wisdom of man, but in the power of God. And what a time that we all need that.

James Greer (01:37):
Then true story, so I'm laying there on the floor and I don't know how this came about. True story. There's a picture and you all might be able to see it. I'm laying on the floor and I look up and you all can't see this, but it's a picture of Daniel standing in the lion den. Daniel's just as calm as can be. And Daniel should be all shook up, but he's not. And I'm thinking, why is Daniel so calm? Because he knew that he was making a stand for God and he knew that God is ultimately in control, and I want you to know that you can be calm because God is ultimately in control. Amen? But then I went on from there. I said, well, how did Daniel end up in the lion’s den? Everybody was like, he ended up in the lion’s den because he made a stand for God. That's partly true, but not always true. He ended up in the lion’s den because the children of Israel had rebelled against God and Daniel was taken into captivity, and therefore he was there. I said, God, you know, I want to bring a message. I don't want it to be just an emotional message. I want it to be a message of truth, that can also help people's lives change. I want know really what's going on today.

James Greer (03:01):
See, during a crisis, people a lot of times just crumble and crash, but I want you to know you can be so, so proud of our staff. They didn't do that. Our staff was courageous and creative. They came up with all new ways. You know, if you want somebody to pray with you, we can have people pray with you right now. So, I mean chat with you. There's new ways. I mean, they became so creative. You're going to be more creative than you've ever been in your life. You're going to be able to, there's some Journey groups right now, they're having meetings right now. They're skyping and they're all together and they're all watching. And a special thanks to our executive pastor, Josh. Man, he was up sometimes until nine o'clock at night. Man, I want it to be put together. Amen? So man, we've got a group that you're going to be proud of. And just because we're practicing the social distancing it and I think we should, we're still going to be connected spiritually, Amen? Though we're not touching physically. I plan on us getting connected spiritually today. Our verse last week was 2 Timothy 1:7. I hope everybody learned it. And it was, that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind. And you probably had to quote it in multitudes of times. And then there was a lot of verses that I wanted to use this week.

James Greer (04:18):
I came up with a real simple verse for us to learn this week, it's Isaiah 40:1 it says, comfort, yes comfort my people, says your God. Usually when God says one thing, it's inspired as an important and he means it. But when God says it twice, it's supposed to jump out. And if there's ever a time that our people need to be comfort it's right now. And every time I think about Journey Church, every time I think about the people that I'm supped to be shepherding, I'm thinking, God, would you please just comfort, comfort my people. So, this is the verse that I want our people to learn this week. I say Isaiah 40:1 says, comfort, yes comfort my people says the Lord. And when you have other people that are not comforted, just text them that verse. Pray that verse to them, send that verse to them, when they're in the hospital, when they're sick, send them that verse. Say, Oh God, comfort my people. Amen? And guess what? God will.

James Greer (04:36):
I had other verses like 1 John 4:4, I was going to use, says this, greater is he that's in me, than he's in the world, because he is greater. I had verses like 1 Corinthians 14:33 that says, God is not the author of confusion but of peace and he is. I had the verse that Dustin had. In fact, when you sent it to me, Dustin and I was looking at it when it said Psalms 46:1, God is my refuge and my strength. He's a very present help in time of trouble, but our memory verse for this week is going to be Isaiah 40:1, comfort. Yes. Comfort my people, say the Lord.

James Greer (05:44):
I know people are saying, what in the world is going on, even what's God's doing? God's really shaken us up. There is a song. I said, the times are just too serious and I'm not going to do it. Yeah, there's a song that says, shake, rattle and roll, and I said, you know, I'm not going to play that right now. But that's the what's going on. We're all shook up and we're all rattle and God said, Hey, I'm going to shake things up, but I don't want Christians to be shook. I want you to know I'm glad to be an American. I'm glad its greatest place in the world. There's no place in the world I'd rather live than in America. Amen? But listen to this, it may be a time to make sure we're making God great again. And when we make God great again, America will be great again. I think that's what's happening.

James Greer (06:49):
It's in Ephesians 6:12 it tells us, it says, for we wrestle not against flesh and blood. In other words, we can't see really what's going on. It would be crazy. I've got these spears and these swords and be crazy for me just to go up here and start swinging them back and forth because there's nothing to be seen, but it did present polities and powers and against rulers in darkness and the age against spiritual host and heavenly places.

James Greer (07:24):
Listen to this, this is very important, I hope. I hope not only the ones here, but mainly the ones that are online. You have time to get a pencil and I hope you have time to get a piece of paper. Hope you have time to take some notes because this is going to be a great time. A great time for you and your family to have some individual Bible study to talk about spiritual things like maybe you've never before. Men, sometimes you always say, men always say, I want to be the spiritual head of the house. Get up and get online and take some notes. Lead your family. Sing with us today, Amen?

James Greer (07:53):
This is important. Everything physical, invisible starts with something invisible and spiritual. Everything. People were having physical problems and sickness from something you cannot see. And most of the problems we have that we can see physically started from something spiritual and invisible that we cannot see. And if you're not careful, we go and we fight the physical instead of the invisible and we miss the battle. We get defeated. If we're going to take care of the physical problems, we have to learn to see the spiritual and invisible problems and learn how to fight them that way. The same principle applies to every area of your life. It applies to your marriage, your finance, school, your job ever, ever relationship. If you have a marriage problem and if you're married, you will. Or you're lying. Until you learn to see the spiritual and the visible problem, you can really never take care of the physical, personal relationship problem. If you just keep looking at the physical without seeing and learning the spiritual, invisible problem, it's never going to get better.

James Greer (09:03):
See, what you don't understand, the same to some extent is even true with this. Corona virus, we can't see it, but we know it's there. Amen? It's attacking, it's contagious. I wish Christ and the Holy spirit would be contagious like that. I wish everybody would say, man, he's just so contagious. Everywhere we're going and we're catching on to Christ and we're getting the power of Christ, and we're being transformed, and it could be, but we know it's true.

James Greer (10:00):
It doesn't mean we shouldn't use doctors and nurses and scientists. In fact, I think we should be praying for our doctors. We should be praying for our nurses and really all those that are going in the medical field. Man, we need to be praying for them like never before. I mean, they're on the front line. I mean, I've never seen how much we need each other. Every aspect, every person needs everybody right now. And what you're going to find out, you didn't know how bad you needed everybody else until you find out where you're at right now. You need the delivery people. You need the truck drivers. You need the stockers. Everybody needs everybody. But let's pray for those people right now.

James Greer (10:51):
I can assure you if I'm sick, I'm going to listen to the doctors and nurses. Amen? In fact, it'd be crazy to go to the hospital, and the doctors and nurse asked me to do something, then I don't do it. But what happens, sometimes the doctors will have to sometimes, do something and tell us something to shake us to our knees before we listen. We've all been to the doctor and the doctor says, man, you need to get on a little better diet and you need to get in a little better health, and we don't do it. But if you'd go to the doctor and the doctor says, if you don't stop smoking, you're going to die. That shakes you up. If you go the doctor and he says, you don't start taking better care of yourself and you don't start taking this medication, you're going to die. That shakes you up. It shakes you to your knees and it says, man, not only do I need to start listening to the doctor, I need to start obeying the doctor. Now there's always those rebellious hard-headed idiots that are going to just not pay attention. They'll just die.

James Greer (11:41):
Part of the shakeup, part of what's going on, part of what God's trying to tell us, he wants to get our attention. He wants to get the attention of the world. Hebrews 12:25 is going to tell us something and he's going to get us a lesson in this. It says, see that you do not refuse him who speaks, for if they do not escape those who refuse him, who spoke on the earth much more shall we not escape if turn away from him, who speak from heaven. In other words, one of the real problems we have in the nation, in the world today, just we just refused to listen to God when he speaks.

James Greer (12:36):
I've told you before you've got a free will. God gives you a free will to choose. Amen? What you don't have a free will is the consequences of your choice, God's not going to skip over the church, when he wants to get the attention of the world. To that point, that was my first prayer. My first prayer was, God, I want you to put mountains around about the church like you did around Jerusalem. I said, God, would you station an angel? And then I really realized that God said, listen, the son of heaven says, he makes the sun rise on the evil and the good. He says, rain on the just and the unjust. What I'm telling you, when God's trying to get the attention in the world, he's not going to skip over the church though. I wish he would. Amen?

James Greer (13:21):
The difference is Christians, we have a piece that's going to surpass all understanding. We can see past the visible and invisible to the spiritual. Verse 26 goes on to say this, whose voice then shook. He shook the earth, but now he has promised saying yet once more, I have shaken not only the earth but also heaven. I said he shook the earth and also the heaven.

James Greer (14:00):
There's a prayer that I quote a lot of times and I think it's so cool because I'm always saying, hey God, I want a little heaven down here on earth. And it says the kingdom come that will be done on earth as it is in heaven. There's some things going home on earth that he would not allow in heaven. God is shaking us up. He wants our undivided attention. I've heard people say over and over and over, if the things keep getting worse and worse and worse in America, either God will have to come or he'll have to get our attention. He's getting our attention. A true story. I was watching TV not long ago and there are some elected officials that were applauding this, that were applauding. Listen, true story. There are applauding when they, they said, listen, let's make it legal when a baby is born alive and we'll leave the there until it dies. And they stood up and applauded. How far can they go? God said, you want some heaven on earth? That's not going to happen in heaven.

James Greer (15:08):
I don't think God's trying to punish us. People say, well he's trying to punish us. But no, no, punishment is when it's your anger and his wrath. Discipline, you discipline somebody out of love that you want the very best for somebody. There may be some discipline, but it's not anger. Verse 27 says this now this yet once more, the removal of those things that are being shaken. There's some things that are going to be shaken on earth, that are going to be removed as the things that are made that the things which cannot be shaken may remain. There are some things on earth that are going to be shaken, but there's some things on earth that going to remain.

New Speaker (15:50):
And then verse 28 I've been waiting for it. It's my favorite verse. It says, you ready? Therefore, since we are receiving the kingdom of God which cannot be shaken. In other words, it said, all this going on, you're being shaken. The world's being shaken. Everybody else's being shaken, but not you. You're the kingdom of God. You're not of this world. You are from another world. You're receiving the kingdom of God. You can't be shaken. Everybody else's been shaken. God's shaking the world. He's bringing us some heaven here on earth, but you can't be shaken. He said, well, the reason you can't be shaken. He said, let us have some grace. He said, not only can you not be shaken when the rest of the world is being shaken, I'm going to give you some grace.

James Greer (16:29):
You know what else he said, by which you may serve. So, you don't want to serve during this time. God said, yeah, you're going to be receiving the kingdom of God and I'm going to give you grace and you're going to be serving. And God's acceptable in the reverence of the fear of God. And the God of a consuming fire because, a consuming fire, when a fire comes, it straightens this thing out. I love it because when you start thinking about, we're going to receive the kingdom of God when all this is going on.

James Greer (16:51):
Romans 4:17 starts talking about the kingdom of God. The kingdom of God is not eat and drink. My goodness. Everybody's worried about what they're eating and drinking. Has anybody been to the grocery store? I mean, you can't even push it out. They got so many things to eat and drink in there. And toilet paper, it's everywhere. You're not going to use that much toilet paper in a year. Kingdom of God is not eating and drinking. It's righteousness, peace and joy and the Holy spirit. The Hebrews is saying, listen, God's shaking the world up, but you're not shaken. God shaking the people up, but you're not shaken. He said, when everything else is shaken, I'm sitting in the kingdom of God upon the Christians life. I could actually send some peace and joy, in the midst of the rest of the world being shaken.

James Greer (17:47):
1 Corinthians 4:20 says this, for the kingdom of God is not even worth, but his power. I'm going to give you power to do whatever I've called you to do, and he said, the way I'm going to do it, he said, he said, let us send some grace. It's the grace that's going to help flatten the curve. There's a lot of talk right now. Let's flatten the curve. Flatten the curve, flatten the curve. Let's Christians help flatten the curve. Let's flatten the spiritual curve. Grace has God's favor. We receive things we don't deserve.

James Greer (18:22):
Grace, is best put this way. Grace gives us the power to do what God called us to do and to do it with joy. Grace is being played out in our church. We've got people like Janet Fuquay and Tony, cancer, major surgery, and they are living out grace. We got Fred, you know, he's bald and he's getting on Facebook and he's trying to make the best of it as he lives out his cancer. We got Paul in the Bible where he had a thorn in the flesh and he asked God remove it. And he said, no, my grace is sufficient. And when they were reading the writer of Hebrews, we'll say in the whole world is being shaken and heaven came down. He shook the earth, but he said, not you, not you. The kingdom of God is not shaken.

James Greer (19:23):
And I've given you some grace. I'm going to go through some of the grace that God's given us to flatten the curve. If I have time, I want to camp out on it at the end. But first we have the grace to serve and not shut down. The grace to serve and not shut down. If you're not careful. One of the things you want to do is when all this turmoil, all the crisis, you just want to shut down. You just want to go to your room. You just want to stay in your house. I tell you, be careful, but don't shut down. Serve, find something to do. I tell you I had the neatest thing last night. There's a show called 24 and most of you all shouldn't watch it, but there's this sweet lady at our church named Miss Elizabeth. And she had a stroke, and I called her husband last night and Mr. Joe, I said, how's she doing? He said, well she's done a little better. I said, well, I'll tell you, go get her and roller front of the TV channel 5 and turn on 24. He said, how come? I said, she loves it. And I said, though, she's had a stroke, she'll watch 24. And so don't just shut down.

James Greer (20:11):
Think of ways you can serve. Pray for people. Interact with people. Call for people, help people. What are you? So the grace is to serve. Don't shut down. Amen? The grace is to be generous, not greedy. Oh, what do you want to do with all this going on? You don't know you're going to have a job, you don't know if you're going to have provisions. We don't know if we're going to pay our bill. Hey, God is the provider. Amen? God is telling you, you just been too long. You've depended on your job, you've depended on your boss. God said now you've got to depend on me.

James Greer (21:00):
Hey, don't be so greedy. Quit fighting over the last roll of toilet paper. I mean for real you all. Come on, grace. Grace, be gracious. Be generous. Not greedy. We'll flatten the curve. Christians. Amen? Grace to have peace, not pity. We don't need a bunch of pity party. Poor me, I don't know what I'm going to do tomorrow. Do you think God's in control, yes or no? Do you think God knows the end and the beginning? Yes. Well, quit having a pity party. Have some peace. Matter of fact, I love this. I wrote this a couple of years ago. I just had it reprinted. I think this time appropriate. Hey, the gift of peace. If you're online, you can go to the prayer room or the chat room and you can say, Hey, I would like to have this devotion and they will get it for you. And if we'd run out of the devotions, our secretary will be glad to send you the PDF file.

James Greer (22:03):
In fact, what I'm planning on doing at some point in time, I'm going to try to have a devotion every week from this. It's an appropriate time, and we want you to have it, and we want to give it to you. Because we want you to have a peace that surpasses all understanding. We want you to have peace and we don't want you to have a pity party. John 14:27 says, peace. I leave with you. Jesus is speaking. He said, I left you peace. My peace I give unto you, not as the world gives to you. In other words, he said? The world can't take it from you.

James Greer (22:36):
Don't lose heart. Don't be afraid. If you want one of the peace books, I want you to have it. If we run out of the books, we'll get you to PDF file. The time is right. It's appropriate. Grace to have power, not panic. This isn't the time to panic. I mean, what good is panic going to do anyway? I mean, what happened to panic is what happens to the grocery stores. Everybody panicked and went to the grocery store. I've talked to the two people that manage grocery stores. They said, man, we're getting the same amount of food we all had. It says people have just panicked. Prepare, but don't panic. Prepare like you going live everyday. Live like today's your last day. Prepare. Don't panic. Enjoy the power of God. Don't panic. Okay, we're flattening the line. Grace to worship. Don't worry. What a great opportunity to worship this morning in your own home with your own family. I mean, you all had it. You all had a song. Anybody could. You could home, you could sing. I mean, my goodness, I hope you all participated in worship. You can worship with song, you can worship with your tithe. You can worship with your offering. I mean, my goodness gracious you should still worship God wherever you're at and whatever you're doing, Amen? Worship will off set your worry. You're going to either worry or worship. You have the choice.

James Greer (24:07):
Let's flatten the line. Grace to have fear. Faith over your fear. God didn't give you a spirit of fear, but of power, love and sound mind. Every person that is saved, God has given you a measure of faith. You have the faith, dig it out and use it. Whoa, you're ready. Grace to respond instead of react. And we're going to talk about that at the end if we have time, and I really do. Did you all know what Mary did? I can't wait till then. Do you all know what Mary did when the angel came and told her that she was going to be pregnant and have the son of the living God? It says she responded and said, be it unto me, Lord whatever you'd have. See, when we respond, we respond saying God, I want your will for my life. When we react. We want what we want. It takes the grace of God to respond instead of react. See, let us have grace for such a time as this.

James Greer (25:16):
And you're right, somebody talked about Esther saying, Hey, who knows that we're here for such a time like this? I think we are Christians. I think we are Journey Church. I think we're here for such a time like this. And God says, Hey, the kingdom of God is upon your life. He shaken the world, but you as Christian has the kingdom of God. He said, I've given you grace for such a time like this. Let's flatten the curve with the grace of God. Amen? The kingdom of God means you're saved, you are one your way to heaven. If you're not sure you're saved and you're watching today at the end, they'll give you a link that you can know. But we're also of another kingdom. Our kingdom is not just here, our kingdom is from heaven.

James Greer (25:52):
Let me give you some examples of what's going on. Most of the time I carry an umbrella. This is a true story. We had a closing this week and me and my wife were in town. And afterwards she said, let's go eat. I said, no problem. We ordered something you can't go in and eat. And so I had an umbrella, started pouring down rain, pouring down rain, and where I had ordered the food, you do have to go to the door and get it. So I said, honey, I know I've got an umbrella. Where is it? She said, honey, you stuffed your umbrella in the very back of the car. She said, by the time I climbed all the way back to the car to get your umbrella, you could walk in the rain and get the food. I said, so you're telling me you want me to walk in the rain and get food? Yeah. Are you can climb back there and get the umbrella?

James Greer (26:52):
So, I had to walk in the rain and get the food, but wouldn't have been so much nicer if I just had my umbrella right there. Amen? I could've got out, got under the umbrella and wouldn't have gotten wet. And got food, got back in my car. But I had it stuffed in the back, God is shaking the world, and we've been out about our own business. We got God, but we've got he stuffed in the back of the car and the only time we'd go get him is when we have a need in her life, and then we can't find him half the time. And we want to pull him out and then try to use it and half the people don't even know where he's at. He wants to be front and center. Amen?

James Greer (27:27):
Let me give you another example of what's going on. If you had a kid and you kept telling the child, quit running out in the street, don't get close. There's cars and they'll kill you. Or don't get close to that cliff. You told them over and over again, and some one day you walked out in that child was going towards the road and there was a car coming or to the cliff. You would run out there, you would scream, you would holler, you would do anything. You'd give your life to save that child's life. And when you grab that child, you might grab them hard, and you might even shake them because you wanted the very best for them. Matter of fact, God gave his son, he gave his best for me and you to save our life. You might grab the child, you might shake them, you might scream at them. But, the real truth is though, at first it might scare that child because they didn't understand what you were doing. But later on when things calm down and you explained to them, listen to just because I loved you so much, I didn't want you to get hurt. I would have done anything to save your life. As they matured, they would understand that you just did it because you loved them and you wanted what was very best for them.

James Greer (28:40):
See, I think God is screaming and shaking us and he said, listen, there's something coming and I'm trying to get your attention now, before it's too late. I think there's something coming and it's going to be something like the great tribulation and I'm not trying to scare you into anything. I'm just saying it's coming. And when it does come this is going to be like a picnic compared to that, and God said, I love you so much. I'm trying to get your attention now. I'm trying to get you to turn back home. I'm trying to be the center of your life. I'm trying to get you to get rid of the idols of your life. I'm trying to get you to pay attention. What's the most important thing in your life? Lamentations 3:32 says, though he calls his grief, yet he shows compassion according to his multitudes of mercies. And the reason God sometimes let's us have sorrow and grief is because he wants us to turn back to him where he can give us unbelievable compassion, in mercy.

James Greer (30:27):
There's a verse that I'm going to read and I think it's so appropriate right now. It's the 2 Chronicles 7:14 and it's the one that says, if my people who are called by my name would humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I would hear from heaven, I'd forgive their sins, I'd heal their land. I paraphrase it this way. If we at Journey Church, are called by his name, because we are. Want to humble ourselves, and we do. We'd pray and seek his face for turn from our wicked ways and we do want to hear from heaven. We want forgiveness of our sins and we beg you God to heal our land. I believe it will be the beginning. Before I close, I want you to focus on one thing. I want you to focus on God healing our land, which he will. I want you to focus on God's grace. Let him use you to flatten the curve. I don't know if you need God's grace that you can serve or you're trying to shut down. Let God give you his grace, whether you've been greedy and you need generosity, let God's grace have his way.

James Greer (31:08):
If you need peace instead of pity, power instead of panic, worship instead of worry. Faith instead of fear, or unless you need to respond instead of react. Here it is. Mary, Luke 1:38, Mary responded and she said this, I am the Lord's servant and I'm willing to accept whatever he wants. May everything you have said come true and the angel left. Listen, let's practice responding to the Lord, not to the world, not to media, not to the devil, this week. The safest place in the world is to respond to what God's called you to do. Let grace have its way for such a time as this. Let's pray.

James Greer (32:14):
God, I just thank you for your word. I thank you for your power. I thank you for your presence. God I thank you for those that are online and God, I pray that God we can be online, but you know no distance. I pray for peace and comfort for everyone there. I pray for those that may not know you as their personal savior, that in just a moment that we give the invitation, God that they would come to know you. I pray for those that need somebody to pray with them, to pray for them, that they would just do that right now. That they would say, Hey, they would click the line and say, Hey, there's people here, real live people. They want to pray with you. They want to pray for you. Got a praise. We turn our face and our hearts back to you. God, you'd begin to heal our land. Help us know God, that we have a kingdom that's unshakable. That God we are from another kingdom that we have one, this peace and joy, this power that surpasses all understanding. Help us to focus on that God draw us closer together than we've ever been. God, I pray for those that are sick. God a pray you'd comfort them. I pray for those that are trying to find a cure that you would give them insights. God I pray for protection for our doctors and our nurses and our staff. God and I thank you for what you're doing in our lives. I thank you for our church. It's in the precious name of Jesus. I pray. Amen.

James Greer (33:29):
Hey guys, don't leave just yet. On behalf of pastor James, I want to thank you for being at worship service with us this morning and if you're feeling convicted to make a decision, and that decision is about salvation, there's a link at the top of our web page. It says, learn about salvation. I want you to simply click on it and let Pastor walk you through the plan of salvation. If you're ready to pray, we have people on standby right now. We want to pray for you. We want to pray with you. We want to pray for your family. Whatever the Lord has laid on your heart, we want to be there for you. We know that you can't do life alone. As a part of that, we have a leak at the very top that's online small groups. We want you to click on it and you can find a lot of information on groups that you can become a part of.

James Greer (34:18):
We also know that you can't out give God. So, if you're feeling led to give to the ministries of Journey Church, simply click on it and whatever the Lord has laid on your heart, just give. Lastly, our pastors always told us, don't simply come and be in the church, but go out and be the church. So, we're simply asking you to go out and be the church. Share our link, share our Facebook page, invite someone to come over to your house and watch our message. Next week, our services start at 8:30 10 and 11:30 we will see you next Sunday.
